The K87 was originally manufactured and made famous in the Neumann U87. It has isolated backplates, which were a feature necessary in this microphone to achieve accurate pattern control with a lower bias voltage of 48v given that the U87 was a phantom-powered microphone. Many tens of thousands of U87’s are in active service today. We manufacture this capsule with two purposes in mind. Firstly, as a perfect substitute for the Neumann K87 Capsule. Secondly, many DIY’ers are undertaking the original U87 (p)(i) and this capsule is essential. The BeesNeez K8 is also available in large quantities.Our mylar, for the BeesNeez K8, is 6-micron DuPont that we personally frame, sputter, tune, and fix to the backplate, which we also wholly manufacture. Ben Sneesby personally creates each individual capsule.
